My stage combat training has occurred mostly at outdoor dramas such as The Lost Colony and Horn In The West. As of 2019 I have been certified in all 8 of the weapon styles offered by the Society of American Fight Directors, in addition to Theatrical Firearms Safety certification. In 2017 I reached the rank of Advanced Actor/Combatant with the SAFD. I also took part in many light saber battles with my friends.

I put my stage combat experience to great use in college, acting as Fight Captain and Fight Choreographer for shows such as Romeo and Juliet, Twelfth Night, You Can't Take it With You, Crimes of the Heart, Deirdre Kinahan's Moment, and American La Ronde (adaptation by Stephen Dietz). In the professional world I have been Fight Captain for shows such as Hamlet and Richard II at Orlando Shakes. As a rising professional Fight Choreographer, I assisted Jeff A.R. Jones with the choreography for Elon University's production of Hamlet in 2020.

I think stage combat is important in helping us redefine our ideas of our own physical limitations.
It's also a pretty fun way to work out.
